As I posted earlier, tonight after work I had to go to the grocery store. Now, my normal daily commute is about fifteen minutes when traffic is at its worst, so that's not a big deal. I also know all the little tricks to driving that route-- for example, for no apparent reason, no one likes to drive in the right lane, and I can zip in that lane all the way home. However, because I also needed to return a video game to Blockbuster, I thought I'd go to a different, better, grocery store. I even left the office five minutes early, hoping to get a slight jump on the traffic.
Those five minutes were of no use to me. I, apparently, have lost all ability to drive in traffic. I just don't know how anymore, and I nearly had a nervous breakdown. Truly, I about lost my shit on my fellow drivers. What is up with all those people in all those cars? Do those people drive that route every night? Cause if they do, they should be better at it. Plus, it was dark already, and I hate driving in the dark.
Oh, plus plus, when I got home and picked up the dogs' food dishes, I touched (touched!) one of the three slugs (THREE!) that had taken up residence in Max's bowl during the rain today. Ew.
And I have a new pimple on my lip. Seriously. It appeared while I was driving, I think.
You don't have to punch life in the face. Just walk beside it & keep it from kicking you in the butt.

Vote for Merlin!
So Merlin's got himself in another contest. That crazy cat. Click on the icon above to go vote for him. Just click on one to five paws (might I suggest FIVE paws) and then click VOTE in each category. He was a very late entry, so all the help he can get is appreciated. You do have to register with Catster to vote, but I don't think they'll do anything nasty with your information. Thanks!
Grumpypants
I don't have anything to blog about today. It's rainy. President Clinton's coming to town tomorrow and I can't go. It's Halloween and I don't have any candy. Nobody in my office has even acknowledged it's Halloween. I don't have anything good to eat for lunch and I don't want to go out in the rain for something either. Tonight I have to go grocery shopping and that's no fun. I swear, after that I'm going to take a bubble bath and give myself a pedicure to make myself feel better. In the meantime...
I know I just posted a kitten yesterday, but I'm trying to battle the grumpy today, so here's a whole basket of kittehs. Gotta fight fire with fire, people.

Monday Mélange
What a horrible horrible football weekend. All our favorite teams lost: the Tigers (big freakin' surprise there), the Steelers, the Broncos, the Bengals, and the Panthers! What the? I guess I can cheer for the Patriots tonight. They do have a great kicker, you know.
You know what? Let's just move on to basketball. Please.
The ESPN/USA Today preseason poll has the Tigers at #14. I don't know enough yet about other teams to be pissed we're not in the top 10. But hey, #14 ain't bad. I'm not complaining.
My favorite football names for the week: Chad Mustard, Nnamdi Asomugha
And for a Halloween cutie:

Seriously?
Poor Manny the Mantee. "Wet, dreary weather and a fast-rising river hampered efforts to locate the sea cow. Despite being about 8 feet long and slow-moving, it evaded helicopters equipped with infrared sensors and boats employing side-scanning sonar." Seriously? And y'all, they really are looking. I can see the helicopters from my office window. I'm even keeping one eye on the River in case I spot Manny myself. The good news is, the sun is coming out finally, and maybe the weather clearing up will make it easier. To find an 800 pound sea creature. In the Mississippi River.
Update 4:18 pm: They gave up. They gave up! The sun came out, it cleared up, and they're giving up anyway. Poor Manny. Maybe he outsmarted them and headed back home on his own. Y'all cross your fingers that he'll find his way to warmer waters...

Thursday Thirteen, No. 9
- Roomba Robotic Vacuum. Best thing ever. Mr. Incredible has some floor cleanliness issues, and this has eliminated his complaints regarding dog/cat/Sadie hair on the floor. Every day I come home from work and am amazed at how much hair the thing has sucked up on its daily rounds. Merlin apparently is fascinated by it- Mr. Incredible was home from work for a few days and watched the cat just follow the roomba around. I thought he'd be scared!
- Chris Young. He has a new cd. He's the most recent winner of "Nashville Star," he's cute, and his voice is awesome. If you like country music, I highly recommend it.
- Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth Lipcolor. Professes to be "softer" than other long-lasting lipcolor... This was important to me because my lipcolor always fades and I hate that! But I also hate flaky cracked lips... This stuff is softer, but didn't last any longer than regular lipstick.
- Fingernail polish. Why, oh why, can I not find fingernail polish that will stay on my fingers? I've tried various long-lasting polishes. I've tried basecoat and topcoat and super-duper-strong-never-coming-off coat. It won't stay. Within two days, tops, I've got chipped polish. I don't know what the problem is, I don't have a job that requires a lot of handwashing. I don't do a lot of dishes. It's irksome.
- Mark Ruffalo. He's so cute. I just wanna hang out with him. "13 Going on 30" and "Just Like Heaven" might not be the films of which he's most proud, but I like them.
- Laziness. I watch a lot of TV. I also like to spend the weekends on my couch doing as little as possible. But don't act like you're better than me just because you have "so many things to do you just don't have TIME to watch TV," or because you just "can't stand to sit still that long" or if you just "go go go all weekend with so much going on." Good for you, gum popper. To each her own.
- Traffic. Look. If you're gonna drive around with a license plate that says: CULATER, then I'm going to assume that you are a fast driver. I should be able to trust that I can tuck myself in behind you and you will not slow me down. The irony of a slow driver with such a plate is not amusing when I'm late for work.
- Rush Limbaugh. C'mon. You're gonna slam Michael J. Fox? There's just so much to say that I don't even know where to begin. Probably better if I don't.
- Jon Stewart. I only JUST NOW started watching his show. Someone please tell why I haven't been watching this show for years. How much would I have loved it back in 2000 when I was an idealistic law student hollering about voter's rights, butterfly ballots and hanging chads? Or in 2004 when I was a jaded, disgrunted, frustrated liberal surrounded by conservatives? Better late than never, I guess.
- Hiro Nakamura. Hilarious! He is my new best friend.
- Manatee. He was just coming to visit me, I guess. Now the Sea World peeps have to figure out how to get him home. Poor little thing. Update: this morning the local news was reporting that the manatee (they're calling him Manny) would be taken to Florida and observed at Sea World to determine if he needs medical attention or can be released into the wild. Update Update: Manny is missing. They can't find him. Keep your eye out!
- Campaign Commercials. Stop the madness! UGH! I cannot WAIT for Election Day so this stuff will stop.
- Twins. Liev Schreiber and Balthazar Getty... Separated at Birth?

Blog Peeps
Morgen posted on Friday about his blog friendships. I'm not going to get all mushy or anything, but I did want to give a few shout outs. If nothing else, I thought I'd give their blogs a plug. Check them out if you get the chance.
Andria was my first blog friend, and I don't even know how she stumbled across my blog. But she did. She was the first "stranger" to leave a comment ("that does suck about your thumb"), and... the rest is blog history I guess. Her blog is where I discovered Thursday Thirteen. She's funny, she's a smartass, she's got little boys that are cutie patooties... If ever I do have a baby, I will count on her for much guidance and comic relief.
I don't remember how I discovered Sarah's blog, but I do remember that I really liked it and I commented a lot right away, and I was afraid she was going to think I was a crazy blog stalker. She might have. She might still, I guess. She's a writer, and I really like to read her posts... about waiting tables, her cat Jolee, her sci-fi addiction, and post-Katrina life in New Orleans. Among other things.
Morgen. Ah, Morgen. It's Morgen's fault if I get fired for blogging memes instead of working. Of course, if he didn't tag me my feelings would be hurt. ;) Morgen and I became instant blog friends and future in-laws upon his cat Daphne's falling madly in love with Merlin. He was then sucked into the cat blogosphere and now we're both addicted with no hope of recovery. On his own blog, he's always smart and funny, and has interesting things going on (I highly recommend one frequently featured topic in particular). Morgen and I need to trade cities for a while, cause he thinks snow is evil. I bet he doesn't even eat snow cream.
Neila I found through Morgan. I decided she was my new best friend when she had a Thursday Thirteen revealing her need (one I share) for hospital corners in bed making. She apparently also has a baby toe like mine, and enough OCD tendencies to make me think we were separated at birth. She has a lot of hilarious stay-at-home-mom stories.
Mya Pinyan is not really my blog friend. She's my real life sister, and she's just getting started with the blogging thing. She is the funniest person I know and she's mother to the world's cutest child (I'm not biased, it's just the truth). I tagged her with the Weird Meme, and she had trouble coming up with nine things, but her baby toes are just like mine, and the nails on her index fingers curl (so do mine) so there's two she could have included. ;)
So. Thanks y'all, for reading, commenting, and posting. You make my days a lot more enjoyable, and I appreciate it!

Monday Miscellany
Why do student sections chant "Over-Rated" when they're beating a ranked team? Isn't that like saying "You can't be that good if we can beat you, cause we suck!" Doesn't seem like something to be proud of, is all.
As I was watching Texas and Nebraska play in the snow I realized: I've never been to a football game in the snow. I've been very hot, very cold, or very wet, but never with snow. I wanna live where it snows! Just for a little while.
I got nothin' about the Tigers. There's nothing to say, really.
I'm tired of the Colts. I really like Petyon Manning's commercials (especially the one where he asks the grocery guy to sign the melon) but, seriously. They bore me. They need to lose or something. Manning takes a hit that made me cringe, looked like it should break his neck and his arm and he just... comes back into the game? What? They need some drama in Indianapolis.
My current favorite football names: Houshmandzadeh, Polamalu, and Taz Knockum.

Weird Meme
So I've been tagged by Morgen at It's a Blog Eat Blog World with this "weird" meme. The idea is that you write 9 weird things about yourself, then tag 9 people.
So... Lemme think. What's weird about me? This is hard cause I already told y'all so much weirdness in my 100 Things.
Tag! You're it: Sarah, Mya Pinyan, Andria, Ali, Lois, Singwithme123, Carmen, Michelle, and Southern Girl.
So... Lemme think. What's weird about me? This is hard cause I already told y'all so much weirdness in my 100 Things.
- Morgen had this one, but I totally do it to. I love to smell my cat! I can't help it! I'll pretend I'm kissing him sometimes so I can smell him. Cause kissing my cat is less weird than smelling him? I guess?
- I do the same trick on Mr. Incredible. I love love LOVE to smell him, and he thinks it's weird for me to be sniffing at him all the time. So I hug or kiss him and try to take deep long sniffs instead short noisy ones. He smells good. ;)
- I cry at everything. On TV. I cry at Grey's Anatomy, like, every week. I cry at the Home Depot commercial where the Dad puts the basketball hoop up in the backyard, and then when the kid grows up, he's cutting down the nets at the Final Four, and the Dad is there, and it's.. just... too much... *sniff sniff*
- Well, speaking of the cat... There is the whole blog I have for him. And the clothes I got for him to wear. And the stroller that should arrive on Monday. And that way that every morning before I leave for work I wish I could stay home with him instead. How am I ever going to leave a human baby to go to the office?
- When I eat a large pickle, I suck all the insides out and then eat the hollow skin. I've done that since I was a kid, I have no idea why. When I eat a slice of American cheese, first I fold it in half, then again, then again, then again. THEN I can eat it. When I eat a peach, I like to save the skin for last.
- My baby toe is like half the size it should be, and the nail grows straight up (perpendicular to the floor). It's hereditary, apparently, and if there's a name for it I don't know what it is. Here's a picture.
- For a week now, I've been wearing an orthotic mouthpiece. I wear all the time when I'm awake, it's supposed to keep me from clenching my jaw (I have a different one to wear at night). It may do that, but it also makes me sound like a seventh grader with a retainer. I'm sportin' a nice lisp now.
- I often have to pop my knee back into place. It's not like all crazy dangling around dislocated, but it feels weird and hurts to walk on it if I don't. I pull on my foot with one hand and push down on my thigh with my other hand, and "pop."
- I can also pop my back all the way up by grasping my hands behind my back, straightening my arms, and pushing my shoulders down. If it doesn't work I bend forward at the waist and lift my hands toward the ceiling, and that does the trick. I learned that from a yoga video. It feels really good.

Thursday Thirteen, No. 8
- Pictures: my wedding, my cat, my niece (the cutest child ever), and one from law school graduation of me, my parents, my sister, and BIL. Update: moved to #1 per Cheysuli's reprimand
- A half empty bottle of Dasani.
- A Kellogg's Special K snack bar. Vanilla crisp flavor. Yum.
- My phone, iPod, and palm pilot.
- A Mr. Incredible toy with a light on its chest. It lights when you squeeze it.
- A candle that smells like mulled cider. I don't have to light it the smell is so strong. It reminds me of fall.
- A framed four-leaf clover.
- My new track-ball mouse (love it!)
- A candy dish full of Crystal Light sugar-free candy. I don't think I'll ever have to refill it, the candy doesn't seem to be a big hit.
- A giant University of Memphis ceramic mug. I use it as a book end.
- Another Univeristy of Memphis mug. This one has a pewter "Alumni" thingie on it. I use it for coffee drinking.
- The University of Memphis 2006 football schedule. Just to make me sad.
- A Selkirk blown glass spherical paperweight that everyone thinks is a snowglobe. They pick it up, try to shake it, and find out it's really heavy. I got it for law school graduation from my Godparents. It's entitled "Celebration." Update: I have taken a picture with my phone, and I emailed to myself. When it finally comes through I will post it! Update update: Ha! I learned Bluetooth!

Various and Sundry Items
I love those Jimmy Dean commercials. The ones where the guy is the Sun? Hilarious. They make me laugh early in the morning, and that is not an easy task (the "why?" one is my favorite).
"Some people contend it's too early for basketball. Not in this town, it's not." Truer words were never said. And I'm ready. Less than a month remains before the first regular season game. I see we have Arkansas State on the schedule at the end of November. Bring it on, my blue wearing hoopsters. Bring. It. On.
Speaking of Arkansas State, I thought I was recovering from a crappy football experience, but I gotta give it up for Arizona Cardinals fans. Dude. That sucked. It was one thing losing a close game in the final seconds (or actually, after the final seconds) but to lose a 20 point lead? In 22 minutes? You win, Arizona Cardinals fan, you win.
Special K snack bars are really tasty. Like Rice Krispy treats, really.
TV schedule update: I'm giving up on "Without a Trace" and "Ugly Betty." "Criminal Minds" is gone too. I really meant to watch "Dancing with the Stars" but it just didn't happen, although I plan to tune in tonight and see what Sara Evans has to say, poor woman. I still haven't watched "The Amazing Race" but I'm saving all the episodes on my DVR for a marathon some weekend. I am finally catching up on some "Desperate Housewives" so it looks like it'll get to stay on the schedule for now. My spreadsheet looks so much more manageable than it did 2 months ago!
Look at this punkin. Isn't he cute?

Sweet!
How cool am I? Very cool.
In the interest of using my fame-for-a-day for the powers of good, I would like to direct you to Skeezix, who has also posted information about three Texas cats who need a good home due to a real tragedy. Please go there and read about it (the details are up at Catster, also). Maybe you or someone you know can assist in some way (even by providing transportation).
Two months ago when I started this blog (and Merlin's) I had no idea how much I would enjoy it, and how many people I would meet. It's been really incredible.
Thanks to my friend Morgen at It's a Blog Eat Blog World for the kind review. If only the Gum Popper knew she was famous now! Hee.

Costume Contest
Skeezix the Cat is running a Halloween Costume Contest that my sweet Merlin has entered. Please go to The Contest Website and check out all the great entries. And of course, I encourage you to cast your vote for Catzilla Merlin. There are some sweet prizes, including the sponsorship of a underprivileged cat in the winner's name.

Unbelievable
I've never seen anything like it. There was no time left on the clock. And the pass flew 52 improbable yards. When the mass of players jumped into the air, I thought surely a Tiger would be able to snag it. Surely, a guy in a blue shirt would come down with the ball and our 23-20 victory would be saved. But fate disagreed, and an Arkansas State player snatched the ball out of the air and killed our hopes of turning around the season with a victory. It was remarkable and amazing and heartbreaking. It was the straw that broke the back of any hope that the Tigers might not suck quite so completely. They do. Suck. Completely.

Thursday Thirteen, No. 7
(thanks to Neila for this idea)
- Misuse of the word "anxious" when the proper choice is "eager." There is a difference! If you're anxious to do something, then don't be mad when I'm late.
- Gum popping and other mouth noises. I know I've harped about that before, but it really really bugs me. Just keep your lips together, is that really so hard?
- When someone who knew me in college refuses to stop talking about those phenomenally stupid things I did. Yeah, I know it was really funny that time when I did that thing. But let's move on, wanna? Besides, I haven't taken off my shirt in public in a really, REALLY long time.
- People who think all lawyers are rich. Or evil. Cause we're certainly not.
- Missing the previews when I go the movies. The previews are an essential part of the whole movie-going experience. If I'm not going to make it in time to see the previews, I just don't go.
- When someone says "Where's it at?" It's not any easier to say "Where's it at?" than it is to say "Where is it?" I just don't understand the attraction. "Where's it located at?" is even more confounding. That's a whole extra syllable! Just stop talking after the word "located." Really.
- When someone in a movie or on TV addresses one person with the word "y'all." "Y'all" is not just a southernism for "you" at any time, only if the "you" is plural. It's short for "you all." It should be used when addressing more than one person. That's the beauty of "y'all," it clarifies whether you're speaking just to me or to everyone.
- When some unscheduled event causes my TV shows to be on at a time other than originally scheduled and my DVR doesn't know it. If the President's going to come on and mess with my very precariously balanced TV schedule, then someone needs to update the Interactive Guide so my DVR and I know what's going on.
- Sexist TV commercials. Right now there's a cell phone ad airing where the husband is strapped to a chair in torment watching his wife and daughters yap-yap-yap their cell phone minutes into overage, and thus big bills for HIM to pay. There was one for a local grocery store that appalled me. The wife is listing the things she needs for a party, and after each item, the husband says "[Name of Store]." And she's all, "Why do you keep saying [Name of Store]?" And he says, "[Name of Store] has everything you need, at a price I can afford." WTF? I also hate the ones with men who are stupid or can't load a dishwasher or don't know how to microwave macaroni or whatever. I'm just glad that choosy Dads also choose Jif now.
- Watching most anything on television live (i.e., not on the DVR). I'm constantly reaching for the remote to fast forward through commercials and boring bits. I don't think we watch anything while it's actually on anymore. Even football-- they have so many commercials, and games go much faster when you can skip the time between each play, not to mention missing the lame jibber jabber of the announcers.
- Having to answer the phone without seeing the Caller ID first. Sometimes when the phone rings, Mr. Incredible looks at the caller ID, pushes "talk," and hands it to me without telling me who it is. There is no pattern to this. It could be someone he knows I want to talk to (even then I like to be prepared), but he also does it when he doesn't recognize the number. This is how I end up answering poll questions for fifteen minutes or buying something I don't need or donating money we don't have!
- Regional broadcasting of football games. I miss a lot of Panthers games because the folks at FOX and CBS think I should want to watch some other team. I know I'm geographically closer to the hometowns of the Titans, the Rams, the Saints, the Bengals, and the Cowboys, even. But geography does not dictate loyalty!
- Spending time with people I don't like. Life is too short! I'd rather stay home and watch TV with Mr. Incredible than hang out with people I don't enjoy. I'm not going to be rude or hurt people's feelings, but I don't want to waste time developing friendships with people I, well... don't care to be friends with.

Too. Much. Television.
We spent the weekend trying to empty the DVR... we did a good job, actually. I heard the news that "Smith" was being cancelled, so I just erased the two episodes I still had. No point in watching them. Also, "Kidnapped" might come back to my schedule-- I heard they're moving it to Saturday night, and wrapping up the plot in thirteen episodes. Which is nice, they're not going to leave viewers hanging, like the dreaded "Reunion" show... I'm still wondering who was the killer.
We'd already decided to drop "The Class," and CBS was nice enough to move "How I Met Your Mother" to 7pm CT so it doesn't conflict with Monday Night Football anymore. That's helpful.
I've still got "Without a Trace," "Law & Order," "Desperate Housewives," "Ugly Betty" and "Amazing Race" on the schedule & on the DVR, but I haven't watched a single episode yet. Have only managed one episode of "Cold Case" and "Criminal Minds," I usually watch those in bed but I've been distracted by the Biography channel lately. I'm a doofus and I didn't know that Balthazar Getty was one of "those" Gettys. You learn something new every day, I swear.
So here's the updated spreadsheet, if you like that sort of thing. I'd forget what to watch if I didn't have it.
Also found a new TV blog, "What's Alan Watching?" Has spoilers and reviews and lotsa good stuff...

Morgen's Halloween Meme
Scroll down for my Thursday Thirteen...
I have been tagged by Morgen at It's a Blog Eat Blog World to answer some Halloween questions....
I am tagging Ali, Katie, Skeeezix the Cat, Mya Pinyan, Lois, and SingWithMe123.
1. What's the scariest movie you've ever seen?
When I was a kid I watched "Fall of the House of Usher" and it scared me for YEARS. I was afraid to walk past a bed because the scary old dead lady might be under there and grab my ankles! When I would turn off the light switch I would run and jump on the bed so she couldn't get me. EEK!
2. What was your favorite Halloween Costume from childhood?
The one I remember most was the year I went as a hobo. Yes, kids, I was a homeless person for Halloween.
3. If you had an unlimited budget, what would your Fantasy Costume be for this Halloween?
Hmmm. That's a good question. Morgen's answer was so good! I might be Heidi Klum. Assuming that my unlimited budget could be spent on plastic surgery. ;)
4. When was the last time you went Trick Or Treating?
I can't remember. Probably sixth grade.
5. What's your favorite Halloween Candy?
I currently have a thing for Mini Twix bars. But I also like Rolos.
6. Tell us about a scary nightmare you had.
I have recurring nightmares about being chased. It's different everytime, but always with the chasing. I'm sure that means something, and it's really not all that mysterious, is it? The last one involved Jay Hernandez from Six Degrees and Hostel. But he wasn't the bad guy. ;)
7. What is your Supernatural Fear?
Ghosts. I believe in them, and I don' t think they're all bad, but still.
8. What is your Creepy-Crawlie Fear?
I hate cockroaches, but I don't want to copy Morgen too much... I also really hate snakes. When we were little, my sister pretended her belt was a snake and chased me around the house with it, hissing, and even that creeped me out.
9. Tell us about a time when you saw a ghost, or heard something go Bump in the night.
One time, at band camp... Kidding. This was at camp, but it was not band camp. My friend and I were talking about our friend that passed away, and how she was there with us in spirit, etc. I got up to close a closet door, and the door simply wouldn't close. It didn't fit in the door frame. I thought it was an old door, maybe it was warped or whatever. The next morning, the closet door closed easily. We said it was a weird way for our friend to show her presence, but that's what we thought at the time.
10. Would you ever stay in a real Haunted House overnight?
Not on your life. I'd be scared out of my gourd!
11. Are you a traditionalist (just a face) Jack O'Lantern Carver, or do you get really creative with your pumpkins?
I haven't carved a pumpkin in forever, but when I did I always did a very basic triangle-feature face. I'm not a good artist at all.
12. How much do you decorate your home for Halloween?
Not so much, really. Mr. Incredible would like to decorate for Halloween, but we don't have very many decorations. We drown the house in Christmas stuff when the time rolls around, though.
13. What do you want on your Tombstone?
My immediate thought was "pepperoni." Hee! I don't have any idea... Maybe "Sadie, Sadie, Buried Lady." Except I want to be cremated...

Baking & Bathrooms
You wanna know one of my favorite smells? When I'm driving home from work, for a couple of blocks I can smell the Wonder Bread factory. Yummmm. It's funny because I usually forget it's there until all of a sudden my nose is filled with that homey baking smell... And then, just as quickly, it's gone.
Baking to bathrooms is an interesting segue, but I'm doin it anyway. Let's talk about this for a second. I know that people are germophobic, and all that. I know that people don't like to touch anything in a public restroom if they can avoid it. But come on, people. Flush! Use your foot or something. It's one thing in nasty gas station bathrooms or at the stadium when everything's wet and sticky and nasty, but at work? Half of the offices on this floor are empty. Including me, there are only five women that regularly work on this floor (and one is part time). We have a ladies' room with FOUR stalls. Come on, people. We all know each other. We could almost each have her own stall. Can you seriously not be bothered to flush? Seriously?
That is all. Except for this cutie.

Working Girl
I got tagged with this meme by Daphne, my cat's girlfriend at Purrchance to Dream. She must have known I'd rather do this than work!
1. What is the best thing about your workplace?
I like that it's quiet. Although that does lead to boredom. And I don't have to see or talk to many people. And I can surf the net all day and mostly nobody notices as long as I get my work done. I also have a nice view of the Mississippi River and the lovely state of Arkansas. I happen to have my camera today, so I took this picture from my desk. Don't judge the decor. I'm too lazy to decorate this place.
2. What do you hate about your workplace?
That's a tough one. I don't really hate anything... except see #3. I guess I do hate when I don't have enough work to do, and then I have to worry about billable hours, blah blah blah. But given the alternative (working my rear off seventy hours a week in a giant firm) I'll take what I've got.
3. What small irritance at your workplace really annoys you?
It's not a small irritance to me, but probably it is to most normal people. My office manager will not stop with the gum popping. I have to turn the sound on my computer all the way up so my music will drown out the sound-- and I can still hear it! Hate!
4. Describe the actions/quirks of the weirdest person you work with (can be a co-worker, employer, or a vendor if you are self-employed)
Other than #3? Tough one. I have three bosses. Boss #1 works ALL the time, but is the nicest. Boss #2 comes in just in time to go lunch, and he's the funniest. Boss #3 is unpredictable and is the bossiest. He never gives specific instructions but then gets mad if I don't things exactly how he wants them done. He monopolizes all non-work-conversations (at lunches or birthday parties or whatever), he rarely, if ever, asks about me or anyone else in the office, and is either in a GREAT mood or an asshat mood. But I dunno if that qualifies as weird.
5. What is one thing that you would change at your workplace to make life a helluva lot better?
Assuming that "not having to work at all" is not an acceptable answer... Ooh, direct deposit! That would be great.
Whom should I tag? I'm gonna tag Andria at Boy Crazy, b/c moms work too, and plus, I wanna read her description of her weirdest co-worker.

Fun with Grammar
For my fellow grammar geeks out there, one of my favorite websites has a new entry about usage. I found it particularly amusing and offers (funny) tips on some frequent errors. Is it weird that I think this kind of thing is fun?
Non-geeks check it out too. Her website is very well written, remarkably funny and not usually grammar related (she's also one of the folks in charge at Television Without Pity).

More culling of the TV schedule
As you know if you saw my original TV schedule, there was a LOT of TV that I attempted to watch. This week, with the premiere of LOST (yay!) I've just decided that I'm not going to keep filling up my DVR with stuff I'm not going to watch-- I don't want to risk filling up the hard drive and missing something important. I was actually hoping something would get cancelled! I decided I had to suck it up and do the cancelling myself.
This week I've decided to stop recording "Jericho" and "Kidnapped." I heard a rumor Kidnapped was getting cancelled and Jericho fell victim to my need to stop recording something, ANYTHING. Oh, and "The Class." I actually thought the show was funny, but the canned laughter just irked me to the point of no return.
It's so bad that I still haven't watched the Season Premiere of "Desperate Housewives," though I still have it on my DVR. I also have missed "Dancing with the Stars," though I keep recording it.
Of the new shows that I've actually watched, I'm enjoying "Six Degrees" and "Heroes." I also like "Studio 60," although I missed the second half of last week's episode. We just had a black screen, though we did have sound. I guess there was a problem with the HD feed or something. I also like "Shark," even though it's formulaic and predictable. I'm very much looking forward to "The Nine" premiering this week, and "Friday Night Lights" starts tomorrow. I'm sorry, but Kyle Chandler (-->) and football in one show? Sweet.
Oh, and in Grey's Anatomy news? If you haven't seen last week's episode (or if you're in Canada, if you didn't see the FIRST episode) or if you don't want any information that may be slightly spoilery, don't read this casting announcement. All I can say is "yay!" and yummy.
