3. I hate my feet
4. I eat burgers in a circle around the edges before I will eat the middle (after arranging the pickles in a single, centered layer, so to maximize pickle bitage)

6. Spaghetti is my favorite dinner
7. Lately I've been watching a lot of war documentaries on the History and Military channels
8. Both our vehicles have names (Bruiser & Harriet)

11. I would love to buy a villa and move to Tuscany à la Frances Mayes

Here It Goes Again

So last night, I came home to enjoy my evening alone in the house. I picked up the remote and underneath it found a sweet little post-it from Mr. Incredible. Later I found another one in the book I was reading, one in the fridge, and one in the microwave. He's a sweetie peetie. ;)

Later last night, I was talking to him on the phone while he drove home, and I flipped my head to the side and slammed it into a corner. Hurt like a mo fo, people. Had to hang up the phone and lie down on the floor. I grew a monster of a knot on the side of my head, but I put some ice on it and it shrank somewhat. Still sore today, believe me. Ouch.

Anyway, here's a fun video. I'm wondering how many takes it took to get this exactly right. And people say that I have to much time on MY hands...

A year's time

It's been a whole year. Doesn't seem like it. I remember watching the TODAY show when I woke up the day after the Hurricane, seeing Brian Williams standing in the Quarter, no water to be seen. By the time I left for work, the water was rising fast, at least up to his knees. I remember feeling helpless, calling the Humane Society to offer to foster animals (they never took me up on it), trying to find a place to donate things, not knowing what to do. A year later I still feel that way. At times I think, we should take our next time off work and go down there to help build something. I think we should vacation there, spend our money, support the local economy. Then I read about the high crime rates and lack of amenities and wonder if it's time for that. Those same articles mention the lack of public defenders and assistant DAs, and I think, heck, we should move there! The two of us could fight crime and revitalize the schools! We could renovate houses! But I haven't done any of those things. Maybe in the fall we could take a three day weekend down there. Maybe it will inspire me to act. Maybe the money we spend will at least be a small drop in the bucket of help that is needed. Maybe...

Don't forget to watch HBO's When the Levees Broke. It's on tonight.

17 Things

Okay, you might think, so your thumb hurts. Big deal, right? What do you need your thumb for all that much, anyway? Well, since I hurt my thumb, I've discovered more than a few things that, sometimes unexpectedly, become remarkably more difficult when my thumb is in pain and/or useless due to the splint I'm wearing:
1. Using the space key when typing
2. Turning a key in a car
3. Holding a cup (the larger the cup the more difficult it is)
4. Squeezing toothpaste from a tube
5. Squeezing shampoo (or facial cleanser, or anything) from a bottle
6. Turning a doorknob
7. Downward facing dog
8. Using a hair dryer
9. Putting my hair in a ponytail
10. Holding your computer mouse
11. Shifting gears in the car
12. Carrying... anything
13. Picking up a 15 pound cat
14. Pushing buttons on the remote
15. Turning the on/off knob on a lamp
16. Scrubbing dishes
17. Closing a Ziploc

Yeah, baby!

Oh, now this was sweet! And simply confirmed my genius in choosing the Panthers as my new favorite team... They beat Miami last night, 19-10, with an oustanding performance by my favorite running back, former Tiger DeAngelo Williams.

Carolina Panthers: "
[T]he Panthers special teams scored all 19 points, including a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by rookie DeAngelo Williams... [T]he Dolphins tied the game... with a 23-yard Olindo Mare field goal. That's when they got a case of the Memphis blues.

Williams, the rookie from Memphis, hauled in Mare's kickoff at the two-yard line, then burst through a seam in the coverage and ran 98 yards for a touchdown. 'As we've said all along, he's got good bursts, good acceleration, and excellent vision,' said Fox of Williams. 'He's got a second gear, and I think you saw a little bit of that when he popped through on that play... DeAngelo did a nice job of seeing that seam and hitting it.'"

Please watch this show!

I have only watched the first hour of this, but I already highly recommend that you watch it. It will be replayed several times on HBO over the next month, so please try to catch it. If you don't have HBO, find someone that does! Here's the info from the HBO website:

HBO: When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts One year after Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans, director Spike Lee presents a four-hour, four-part chronicle recounting, through words and images, one of our country's most profound natural disasters. When the Levees Broke Acts 1-4 air on the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina: Tuesday, August 29 at 8pm.

How'd it go? It went.

Well, that went by way too fast! How I spent my Tuesday Night Home Alone: I was literally too lazy to do most of the things on my list, including the pedicure. And I didn't have any wine, cookie dough, or marshmallows. But, I did have Pancho's cheese dip when I got home, just to fuel up for the night. Then I played around online a little. Then I read this week's People magazine (with Britney Spears on the cover). Then I ate a big salad and watched an old episode of Friends (the One with all the Thanksgivings). Then I played online some more looking for a new template for this blog, and I half-watched a Biography about JFK because I was waiting to watch one on Barack Obama. But right after it came on, Mr. Incredible called and was on his way home. They got finished early. Not that I would've gotten around to doing anything very productive anyway. Merlin certainly wasn't inspiring me to act, as you can see. He didn't seem to know that it was his opportunity to run amok. And there's always next Tuesday!

My cat thinks he's a dog

Check out Merlin panting. Make sure you have the volume up so you can hear his little panting noise (starting about 8 seconds in or so, not to be confused with my laughter which comes in later)! He tries so hard at being a dog.

Whatever to do?

Tonight is hubby's first night of his doctoral program. Every Tuesday night this fall he will be in class from 4pm til 10pm, and I, therefore, will be ALONE... Whatever shall I do? Read chick lit? Bring the dogs inside to leave their hair all over the house? Count how many marshmallows I can fit in my mouth? Scoop the kitty litter box so he doesn' t have to? Watch some ridiculously girlie TV show? Do some laundry? Put new softpaws on Merlin's claws? Surf the internet? Eat cookie dough from a tub? Try on clothes from my "too small" closet to see what fits? Play fetch with the cat until my arm falls off? Drink too much wine? Take a bubble bath? Dust? Go grocery shopping? Give myself a pedicure?

For those psycho stalkers out there, I should mention that I have an alarm system, a neighbor that's a cop, two big MEAN dogs... and an attack cat.

Monday

Why is it that a weekend of laziness just makes me even more tired on Mondays? We did rearrange the living room furniture. That was slightly productive. But other than that... But despite all that laziness, I couldn't seem to take a nap! I even managed to stay awake while watching golf! But today I'm feeling like I'm right on the edge of falling asleep at my desk...

I wish I could get in a good nap like Ace here. Somewhere along the way I lost my nap skills, and I had serious champion nap skills, people. Don't doubt it! I could give Ace a run for his money back in the day. I blame my non-napping hubby for me losing my edge. It's sad.

Special Gift

My Vol friend might be getting these as a present! Ha! You know, we ought to make a deal that the losing fan will wear something (something decent, I mean) of the winning team's on October 2, and must post a pic on her blog for proof. Whaddya think?

Check out website where I found these, it's got stuff for Tigers, Vols, Grizzlies, and Titans. Tennessee Sports Zone

Cute or Snotty?

Okay, I like this T-shirt. Is it cute or is it snotty? Y'all weigh in and let me know what you think. I also like the messenger bag.

And Guess What? Chicken Butt! Ha!

Death by Chocolate Not so Nice

Man Trapped Waist-Deep in Chocolate - Forbes.com: "It might sound like a chocoholic's dream, but stepping into a vat of chocolate became a two-hour nightmare for a 21-year-old man Friday morning. The man, an employee of a Kenosha company that supplies chocolate ingredients, told police he got into the tank at Debelis Corp. to unplug it and became trapped waist-deep in the chocolate."

Like quicksand, they say. Wonder how many Points that would come to...

Friday

Don't have a lot to say today... I'm tired. Don't know why, really. And I'm grumpy because I gained a pound this week. Oh well, I'll try to get back on track but I'm supposed to go to Huey's for lunch today and that's not very Points-friendly. But... so good!

I will say this: Bianca Ryan? Kicks butt. She's awesome. She's 11! And I want to be her when I grow up. She reminds me of Joss Stone, whom I love. And I can't wait for her to release an album. Did you see her little face when they announced that she won? She was so cute! Completely stunned and speechless. And doofus Regis kept trying to get her to talk, it just wasn't happening.

That is all.

Shooby Dooby Dooby Dance!

Tonight's the finale! We find out the winner of "So You Think You Can Dance..." Heidi and Benji are my favorites. And thank goodness for Cat Deeley... what an improvement!

I don't even want to admit how many moves Mr. Incredible and I have tried out in our living room. Believe me when I tell you those dancers make it look easy. We always try the lift-type things, and he can pick me up and throw me around but I can't do the part I'm supposed to do. But it does make me want to take Salsa lessons...

Friendlier with Two

So, the other day while Mr. Incredible and Max were industrious and healthy and went for a run (I had to stay home to, um, do something important), Merlin shared Coco's bed for a little nap. I'd say they were good friends, but I think Coco just doesn't care. But at least she's friendly! We think Merlin is a dog in cat's clothing... he loves playing with Max and he sleeps on the empty dog bed at night.

Run, DeAngelo, Run!

My new favorite NFL team is the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers made the very smart decision to draft DeAngelo Williams, and thus have won my undying loyalty. Plus my hubby said I should pick a favorite team to make the season more interesting. It's probably destiny, considering my sister/BIL/niece and my parents are moving to the Charlotte area in the next few weeks. And two other former Tigers play for the Panthers, including Reggie Howard (CB) and Tony Brown (DT). So. I'm looking forward to the season and next Saturday's nationally televised preseason game. I wish football season would hurry up and get here!

It's almost time!

It's almost here. The real first day of fall... Kickoff. Football time in... Memphis! And the Tigers are getting ready! I'm so excited. I've watched 2 preseason NFL games now, and it's not the same, of course, but it's just fanning the flame. And according to the CA Tommy West is "pleased." The players got up before dawn and practiced in the freakin' moonlight, for heaven's sake. How can you not be pleased? Heck, we've got 4 quarterbacks! With no broken legs! And something like four other players returning from injuries. And I've got new blue shoes, so what else can you ask for?

I. Cannot. Wait. September 3 can't get here soon enough. Hotty Toddy my patoot! Go Tigers!

The Daily Kitten

The Daily Kitten

How cute are these baby kitties? Makes my big fatty look even bigger and fatter...

It's Hot.

Okay, y'all. It is Hot. Not just sunshine and summertime hot. Really, truly, hot. And sticky. This morning, I was outside for a total of maybe 60 seconds in the walk from my back door to the car, including the time it took to fill the dogs' water dishes and pet them goodbye, and I got in my car all sticky and sweaty. Nice way to start the day.

And the thing about The Hot... We all know it's going to be Hot. It's Hot every year. Maybe it's getting warmer, but not THAT much. Every summer it's freaking crazy Hot. And we all act like we're surprised! It's all we can talk about... But we, presumably, chose to live here, or at least have chosen to continue to live here, in full knowledge of The Hot. One would think that eventually we would just live our lives in the presence of The Hot without feeling the need to discuss it. One would be WRONG. Cause it is crazy Hot.

Hot, by the way, is a really funny word if you say it or type it enough times.

About Me

So... I'm Sadie (not my real name).  I have a dog and two cats.  Here's what they look like:

This (left) is Merlin.  He's a cat.  He weighs 20 pounds.  This (right) is Dobby.  Also of the feline persuasion.  He weighs about 18 pounds, and is the sweetest of the sweet.

This (below) is my Max.  I love, love, triple love him.

You can learn more about all of us by reading the below links...  If you're really that interested.
